WHAT IS A DESIGNATION?
A “Professional designation” means a title or status conferred by a professional body in recognition of a person’s expertise and/or right to practice in an occupational field.

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE A PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATION?
- It gives you credibility.
- Your knowledge and experience has been
evaluated against a registered standard. - It is not just information that appears on your CV.
- The designation gives you a title, which has been verified by an independent external body.
All trained persons who meet the criteria will be awarded a professional designation and issued with a certificate stating the professional designation. These persona will be allowed to use that title and place corresponding designated letters behind their names: i.e.:
- PBEH-HO – Hygiene Operator
- PBEH-HC – Hygiene Controller
- PBEH-HP – Hygiene Practitioner
- PBEH-HS – Hygiene Specialist
- PBEH-HX – Hygiene Expert
Professional Member
A professionally designated person in terms of the NQF Act (Act 67 of 2008). Designations:
Hygiene Operator (Cleaner)
Hygiene Controller (Team Leader)
Hygiene Practitioner (Supervisor)
Hygiene Specialist (Contracts Manager)
Hygiene Expert (Area Manager)
Affiliate Member
A non-designated person who has an interest in the South African Cleaning Industry or is engaged in all types of cleaning activities, possesses knowledge and/or practical experience which qualifies the candidate to co-operate with skills development providers, in the advancement of their knowledge and practical experience, allowing him/her through a progression pathway to achieve Professional Member status.
Associations / Bodies
Any Association or body which is a group of individuals/ companies who come together for certain purposes. It is often regulated by a constitution and rules and run by office bearers.
Corporate Member
Corporate members are entities operating and providing services within or affiliated to the Cleaning Industry. A corporate member shows that they are interested in the skills and qualifications of the people working in their industry.
Corporate members have to also meet the set criteria.
The value can of having a designation in your workplace can be summarised in a few keywords: employability, competency, professionalism, consumer loyalty and trust.
